Rumsey Community Fund - About

About

The Rumsey Community Fund was established in 2000 by members of the Rumsey Band of Wintun Indians as a philanthropic branch of tribal government.  The fund provides over $1 million annually to non-profit organizations to strengthen regional programs and services in Yolo County and surrounding areas.  To date, more than $8 million has been given to local organizations supporting education, community health, arts and humanities, environment, community development and social services.

Establishment of this philanthropic fund was very unusual.  As a federally recognized Indian tribe, the Rumsey Band of Wintun Indians is a sovereign government, and receives no tax advantage for making a charitable contribution to any group. The Rumsey Community Fund is recognized as one of the first such funds formally established by an Indian tribe.
